Original Toronto Star caption: Wet Bear, It was a damp day all-round for Glen Abbey's designer and probably the finest golfer in history. Jack Nicklaus hit his second shot into a lake fronting the ninth green, donned his rainsuit and went in after it. Left, the pops the ball out of the water to within 12 feet of the hole, strides grim-faced up the slope (middle), then strips off the wetwear before missing the putt for a bogey. He shot 146 and missed the cutoff by one shot. Bruce Lietzke and rookie Hal Sutton share the lead at 136.
