Robin Platts, one of the leading jockeys on the Ontario thoroughbred racing circuit, urges his mount, Contata (right) to front a few yards from the starting gate during a recent race at Woodbine race track. Platts rode 175 winners last year for purse earnings of $1,141,613. His share of that total, about $120,000 places him with the superstars in other sports but he doesn't get the same recognition.
