The stock market has been anything but kind to investors in th past year. Two Metro men, Peter Cossete, left, and Stuart Shoemaker, right, might be described as typical individual investors. Shoemaker is disillusioned by recent drop in stock prices, while Cossette still sees the market a comeback in the next year or so, Cossette calls market an irrational creature.'

Loading children into the back of his station wagon for a trip home from nursery school, bus operator John Davis says he is breaking the law but he must do it to make a living and I have learned how to carry children in the safest possible way. Police vigilance has been increased since a recent accident that involved a school bus in which 11 child passengers were shaken up.

What's up? A newly hatched cockatiel takes a look at the world as he stands on the hand of John Bennett, the birdman of Durham. The Uxbridge resident imports and breeds exotic birds and has a stock of 400 feathered friends ranging from finches to toucans.

Uncle Frank Dawson tends to one of his injured wildfowl at his 3 3/4-acre conservation area on Elmcrest Rd. The 83-year-old bachelor has been patching up injured birds for as long as anyone can remember. With a small creek running through the back, his property has become a haven for hundreds of waterfowl. He has lived in the same house for over 50 years and has raised a varietyof birds. But Dawson can't recall when people started to bring birds to him, he said.
