The craftsman, who learned his skills in his native Yorkshire, England, has been teaching Metro residents the crafts of spinning and weaving for 10 years. Horticulturist Andrew Benn of Scarborough waters plants in his exotic tropical greenhouse where he grows sugar cane, orchids, pineapples and bananas along with regular vegetables. The native of Guyana is teaching courses on indoor and outdoor gardening for beginners and advanced gardeners. His classroom is his greenhouse in his backyard on Vauxhall Dr. Classes started today and will run for 8 weeks.

Class of '87: Dr. Hilroy Thomas, right, is opening private schools in Scarborough and Etobicoke to help students, labled under-achievers, make the grade. He says individual attention and small classes can raise a student's grade by one year. These students are catching up this summer.

Parting gift: Retiring postman Bob Cooper holds a miniature mailbox filled with money given to him by residents on his route in the Keele St. Eglinton Ave. area on the weekend. About 75 neighbors turned out for the retirement party for Cooper, who has a delivered their mail for 32 years.

Soul travel to outer space is encouraged by Eckankar, a philosophical -religious organization run by a retired couple, Fabian and Lillian Burbeck. This group believes souls can travel on several mystic planes to outer space and indescribable occult places. Burbecks lead classes - there are 15 courses that take more than 7 years of study to complete - and attract people of all ages. They urge self-improvement.
