James D. Robinson III, chairman of New York based American Express Co., pictured at the Toronto Stock Exchange where his company's shares were listed for the first time yesterday. The firm is currently facing a challenge to its domination of the travellers' cheque market from Visa and Master Charge, whose credit cards dominate the international bank card scene. Master Charge hopes to be in the business by next May and Visa will make a decision shortly.

Ralph Evinrude, chairman of the board of Outboard Marine Corporation of Milwaukee and Peterborough, Ont., shows off a new 200 h.p.-plus, Wankel-type outboard motor in a demonstration at the Miami boat show. Evinrude holds a million shares of Outboard Marine stock currently trading at more than $35 a share.

Last summer, he sold encyclopedias. This summer, university student Mark Dingman is selling himself - as the first prize in an unusual raffle. Dingman 21, of Toronto, has decided to raffle himself - or more precisely, 16 hours of his time - to make money for school. I wanted to run my own business. This took minimum capitalization and had minimal risk, should it fail, said Dingman, a McGill University student. And it seems like a good skill to learn, to sell yourself. Dingman is going door-to-door with his Student Slaves raffle and a very professional pitch. Tickets go for $1.99 each (or three for $5) and there are 200 in each draw. The first raffle is scheduled for Tuesday and the winner gets Dingman for 16 hours to do anything from cleaning ovens to fixing eavestroughs.

H. S, (Stan) Bond won't retire although he'll soon be 94. He's too old to renew his driver's license so makes his sales calls via bus and streetcar. Bond thinks today's company managers would do a better job if they were given bonuses for boosting profits. His customer say he knows merchandise well.
