Original printed inscription: "Government House & grounds, Toronto, C.W. on the Queen's Birth-day. 1854". Government House (1815-1860), Simcoe St., southwest corner of King St. West. The house, originally known as Elmsley House, was built by John Elmsley. It became Government House in 1815, and remained so until 1860.
