Original Toronto Star caption: More effective than the most complicated mine-detecting apparatus at times; the dogs are the only means of detecting the all-wooden shoe mine. They are given four months' training before being sent into action. Twenty dogs can clear a lane 16 yards wide at the rate of 200 yards in half an hour. Here's a picture of the dogs at work.
