Original Toronto Star caption: A bridge to nowhere spans Highway 401 west of Dixie Rd.; with only the eastbound lanes of 401 still in use. Next month; the Department of Transport expects to open a new $18 million stretch of 401; with eight traffic lanes from Highway 427 to Dixie Rd. and six lanes from Dixie Rd. to just west of Highway 10. During the months of construction of the new route; motorists have had to crawl along 401; as it was cut to two lanes or diverted entirely by the road-building.
