Original Toronto Star caption: Testing his hydroplane; designer John Marks; a Mississauga mechanic; sits at the controls of the Thunder Chief during his first trail run for the season off Bronte. Because of choppy water; he only hit a modest 80 m.p.h.; although the craft is capable of doing 150 m.p.h. under good conditions. 2;700-pound hydroplane is powered by a 1;200 horsepower engine; and features a radical aircraft type superstructure made from a CF-100 wing tank.
