Original Toronto Star caption: Old-Fashioned hats made the old way - that's been Florence LaFrance's specialty for 26 years at the Style Rite Hat Co. The equipment she uses; including a gas-heated press that forms the cap of a bridal-type topper; has been in service at the Richmond St. company for 75 years. Ninety per cent of the company's business currently is in bridal hats;which are making a fashion comeback.

Showing how his wares work - almost all at the same time - is Ballon King Otto Bishof. He estimates he'll sell about 50,000 balloons and about 30,000 party hats, horns, noise-makers, bells and whistles to bring in the New Year. After 11 years in the business, he says he still has a lot of fun. Bischof also rents out canisters of helium gas to fill balloons, and he and staff also decorate some hotels for the festivities.
