The fables of Aesop, and others. ''The preface dedicatory'', signed by Thomas Bewick is dated from Newcastle, September, 1818. A ''receipt'' on the leaf preceding the t.p. bears, in facsimile, the signatures of Thomas Bewick and his son along with the famous thumb mark of Thomas Bewick. A piece of sea-weed was impressed in red ink on the receipt's copperplate vignette. Bewick drew the designs for the cuts on wood and was assisted in the engraving by his son, R.E. Bewick, and two pupils, William Harvey and William Temple.
