Original Toronto Star caption: Hauling in the Paravane; a device used in sweeping the vital shipping channels clear of destructive enemy mines; slicker-clad sailors aboard a minesweeper of the Royal Canadian Navy berth the heavy defence weapon after use. Dreaded mines rise to the surface when the paravane cuts their cables. Once spotted they are soon set off by gunfire directed at them.
