Original Toronto Star caption: Carbon monoxide released by traffic on Highway 401 near the airport will be measured by the monitoring equipment Gary Shienfield is installing on a 40-foot tower. Researchers will use its findings to determine how much of the polluting gas is on the highway itself and how much is blown into homes and fields nearby. It's an experiment to help the provincial government design better roads.
