Inscribed in pen & ink, l.r.: C H J Snider; In pencil, vso: STR "CASPIAN", 1846 / ...still/(1916) in commission ... She / was the second iron steamer to fly the British flag on the / Great Lakes.    The vessel is probably the Passport, 1846-1898, re-named Caspian in 1898, scrapped in 1921.    Heyl IV: 25 & 243-5.
