Format
Lucian was born in Samosata, capital of Commagene, in Syria (now modern Turkey). He traveled in the Meditteranean and as far West Gaul and allegedly wrote some 80 works. His "True History" is a satirical travelogue that includes a voyage to the Moon. It is one of the earliest texts that can be called science fiction. Translated by Francis Hickes, illustrated by William Strang, J. B. Clark and Aubrey Beardsley, with an introduction by Charles Whibley.
