Notes
"Although John Marshall lists this book among advertisements of his publications ..., he does not put 'S.S.', Mary Ann Kilner's pseudonym, after the title of this book. Since J. Marshall carefully puts 'S.S.' and 'M.P.', Dorothy Kilner's pseudonym, after all their respective publications, this book probably was not written by either of the Kilners."--Cf. Welch, D.A. Amer. children's books, 486. Sometimes attributed to Mary Ann Kilner. Cf. Cambridge bibliography of English literature, v. 2, p. 558. "I perfectly recollect having seen the eyes of some of you sparkling with delight, whilst reading the Memoirs of a pincushion, or A peg-top, &c. which encourages me to hope, that my history of a dutiful little family will afford you some amusement..."--Preface. The adventures of a pincushion and Memoirs of a peg-top were both written by Mary Ann Kilner.
