Illustration of the Kent building at the corner of Yonge and Richmond where the Belle Ewart Ice Company was located. The Company was founded in 1891. Ice was harvested from Lake Simcoe to be distributed to many locations including Toronto. By 1892, the demand for ice from Lake Simcoe was so high that it warranted the building of a rail spur to the water’s edge. Ice was transported via the Grand Trunk Railway Northern Division, and brought down to Toronto. |
