Handwritten note on back of the original frame: "Artist - Walter Channing. Old footbridge in what is now Ramsden Park. The houses are on what is now known as Belmont Street. Artist's note below this card says 'Canada West, 1838, near Toronto.' Walter Channing was an Englishman, visited the country as a travelling scenic artist - theatrical. Presented to the Company by E.A. Hutcheson, December 1948, who at this date has been an employee of the Company for 56 years."
Handwritten note on the back of the painting itself: Old Foot Bridge In Tannery Hollow, Yorkville, three hundred yards west of Yonge St., which crossed the Ravine and pond that was situated in what is now Ramsden Park, and ran west to Avenue Road. To the right was the old cottages near the brick fields. To the left old ruins - Davenport road, where Mr. & Mrs. Townsley lived in a small brick cottage. This building was improved and occupied by the late Prof. McClellan, who lived for many years."
