Original Toronto Star caption: The CCF party was formed in the summer of 1932 at a small conference of prairie farmers and labor group. They were trying to get a fresh start in national politics after a disappointing experience as Progressives in 1920s. This picture, taken five years after the party  was formed, show (from left)-the then CCF MPs Tommy Douglas, Angus MacInnis, A. A. Heaps, J.S. Woodsworth, M.J. Coldwell, Grace MacInnis and Grant MacNeil. The CCF, says Mr. Underhill, came closest of the parties to democracy.
