In a rare bit of scientific detective work, phyicists at Ontario Research Foundation in Sheridan Park proved Canada's 1855 black 12-penny stamp was used in a mailing from Hamilton to England in 1855, boosting its value from about $3,000 to anywhere from $25,000 to $40,000 for owner, a British collector. Toronto's oldest Redcap, Jake Charendoff, sits waiting for new business at Toronto's Union Station, while behind him sits redcap Bert Fortune.
