Original Toronto Star caption: The only way to go to work this morning was to drive or hitch a ride as Metro's giant public transit system ground to a halt in the wake of the first strike by transit workers here in 22 years. There were no subways or buses or streetcars as the 5;700 workers; members of Amalgamated Transit Workers; trudged on the picket lines instead of taking people to work. Union President Leonard Moynehan; said his members are insisting on a good deal; not a medicore offer.
