Original Toronto Star caption: One of the six Canadians who have won the V.C. in this war, the late Capt. F. T. Peters is recorded officially among the British winners because he is a member of the Royal Navy. A Native of Prince Edward Island, he earned the award by forcing a boom at Oran during the North African landings in November, 1942. He was the only survivor among 17 men taking part in the action. Captured, he was released later only to be killed when his plane crashed into the sea.
