The event was won by Kevin Forster; 26; who set a Marathon record of two hours; 12 minutes; 32 seconds (2:12.32) over the 42.2-kilometre (26.2-mile) route. Gidamas Shahanga of Tanzania was second in 2:14.44 while Roger Cawkwell of Toronto finished a surprising third.
