Original Toronto Star caption: This lighthouse seems to denote the rugged; lonely beauty of Newfoundland; but it's right off St. John's harbor beneath Signal Hill; the sport where Marconi received the first trans-Atlantic wireless message in 1901. Another historic spot at the provincial capital is Lester's Field; where Alcock and Brown took off in 1919 on the first nonstop flight across the Atlantic. But it's now a St. John's housing subdivision.
