Original Toronto Star caption: Avenue road shade trees will be removed when street widened. An excellent view of Avenue Rd.; north from the intersection of St. Clair Ave.; from where the pavement of Avneue Rd. is to be widened from 24 to 46 feet; and the five foot walks on either side are to be set back 11 feet from the curbs. Sixty-one beautiful shade trees will have to be removed to make way for the pavement. On the RIGHT is the residence of Hon. G. Howard Ferguson; Canada High Commissioner in London. He is leading strenuous opposition to the widening and the destruction of the trees.
