Original Toronto Star caption: At the top of Avenue Rd. hill, is 114-year-old home of man who was one of wealthiest men in Canada, entered politics at age 39 and did everything he could to stop Confederation. His name was John Macdonald, not John A. Building is now De La Salle College. Macdonald was known as "Merchant Prince" of Canada.
