Original Toronto Star caption: Business as usual but 65 feet back. Long a landmark and stopping-off place for tourists; Lakeshore Lodge will remain in business; courtesy of the city of Toronto. When widening plans were first discussed for Lakeshore Blvd.; it was felt that this lodge; in business for over 20 years; would have to be demolished as plans called for a road right through the centre of the house. Buildings; said that holes would be made through the exterior walls of the house; needles or long strips of lumber passed through them; and then the house would be jacked up off the foundation Tracks would then be laid and the house slid along to rest on a new foundation.
