Original Toronto Star caption: Animal care centre at the University of Toronto occupies a basement where it has more space than 10 large homes; and will soon contain operating theatres and facilities that many hospitals would envy. Man in charge of day-to-day care of the animals is Ernie Reid; chief animal supervisor; shown checking some of the cages. When it is fully operational the centre will hold 12;000 mice; 5;000 rats; 1;000 monkeys and assorted other animals.
