Original Toronto Star caption: Beclining buddha; attended by his graven monks; look impassively out at the devout; who mediate and even snooze in the cooling shade of his temple; part of the magnificent complex of Buddhist buildings; at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon. You must remove your shoes and socks before you can mount the terrace where the shrine and templates stand; but Burmese are not santimonious and that's the only prohibition. You can talk; photograph; smoke and sleep at the shrine if you wish.
