Original Toronto Star caption: After landing at Quebec City in a French cruiser for his short but turbulent 1967 visit, de Gaulle got a wildly enthusiastic welcome from Quebeckers as his motor cavalcade rolled 180 miles along the north shore of the St. Lawrence toward Montreal. Here he talks with a little girl sitting on her father's shoulders in the small town of Donnaconna, while at far left the late Quebec premier Daniel Johnson watches. When Ottawa rebuked de Gaulle for his Quebec Libre speech, he cut visit short.
