Original Toronto Star caption: Pepin goes sea-cycling through a plaza. Jean-Luc Pepin, Canada's minister of trade and commerce and industry, opened the Design Canada exhibition at Yorkdale shopping plaza yesterday by trying out a sea-cycle with Jeanine Beaubien, artistic director for the National Design Council in Ottawa, which sponsored the show. Purpose of the exhibition, Pepin explained, is to show the world the best designed Canadian products for work, play and home. A non-governmental consulting group, the National Design Council is composed of 17 people from all walks of life who judge Canadian products for design and report to Pepin's office. The exhibition will continue until Oct. 19, then go on a cross-Canada public tour.
