Original Toronto Star caption: Neat picket pence stands unmarked by the fire in Cobalt yesterday that left the home it guarded and dozens more a pile of smouldering ashes. A resident wanders disconsolately by. The Northern Ontario town s firemen and more than 100 volunteers from surrounding areas; admitted that we were helpless to contain the blaze; fanned by gusting winds through the wooden buildings. Water bombs were also called in. The fire left about 400 persons homeless. It was the third major fire to sweep through the community in 50 years.
