Inscribed in the print, l.l.: H Jones del; l.r.: West Day's Lith'gr. 59. Gt. Queen Street; b.: THE RED LAKE CHIEF with some of his FOLLOWERS Arriving at the RED RIVER and Visiting the GOVERNOR. Watermark, vso b.: J WHATMAN [?] 1825. One of a set of six (Accs. JRR 2348-53) of which Library's book collection has four (this being plate [1] with slight variations in inscriptions) with front wrapper watermarked 1826 bearing title Views in Hudson's Bay... (BR JB fo O.S. 917.127 V37). The figure of Robert Parker Pelly (governor of Assiniboia 1823-5) at extreme right replaces that of Andrew H. Bulger (governor 1822-3) shown in Rindisbacher's Westc. in ROM (951.87.3; Allodi 1974 no. 1466, illus.; E.H. Bovay, Le Canada et les Suisses, no. 72) and his pen and ink drawing reproduced in A.M. Josephy, The Artist Was a Young Man, plate XXIV (Bovay no. 75; lith. is no. 73). The scene is Fort Douglas.
