Jump may seem bad tactic; but the ball is hard; like a cricket ball; and can sting. It was New Zealand's first gold medal in field hockey; and the final was remarkable in itself: for the first time since 1920; neither India nor Pakistan made it to the final game. Pakistan won the bronze medal.
