And thousands pack Nathan Phillips Square for the histori official opening. They saw Governor-General George Vanier open the architectural beauty by cutting a huge red ribbon - 132 feet long and 8 feet wide - with a pair of 16-foot scissors. Rockets carrying flags burst over the scene and fireworks splashed against the gray sky at the ceremony. Dignitaries; including Prime Minister Pearson; PRemier Robarts; ex-mayor Nathan Phillips; attended.
