Original Toronto Star caption: Slia Medvedew; a former Russian Cossack has no trouble making his needs known at Central Hospital; Sherbourne St. Mrs. Nila Gawa; laboratory technician; who speaks Russian; visits his bedside along with head nurse Doreen Wilson. Mrs. Gawa is a captain in hospital's Language Aid Service; for which staff members volunteer to assist patients with language difficulties. One of every five patients speaks no English.
