Original Toronto Star caption: 70 firemen battle $175;00 blaze. A three-alarm fire yesterday gutted the Dominion Rug Co. store on Yonge St. near Melrose Ave.; causing $175;000 worth of damage and sending out clouds of acrid smoke from rubber padding that made the blaze all the more difficult to fight. Sixteen trucks and 70 firemen were on the scene; one truck was pumping water into smouldering piles of rugs this morning. Yonge St. was closed for six hours; and a southbound lane was closed earlier today.
