Original Toronto Star caption: An air Canada DC-8 burns at Toronto International Airport last night after an explosion ignited jet fuel and turned it into a roaring fireball. Witnesses say the explosion was in one of two trucks parked under the wings. I saw the gasoline truck in flames and it was only minutes before you could hardly see the aircraft because of smoke; one man reported. I think I saw flames jumping from the trucks to the aircraft; he added. The first blast; at 7.02 p.m. sent a chunk of the wing section flying half a mile; then the whole wing dropped on the fuel truck.
